Know Your Pipe Tobacco

Connoisseurs of pipe tobacco are very selective when it comes to the type of tobacco they smoke. Many different flavors and blends of tobacco are available, anything from fruit-flavored tobacco to tobacco that has a nutty taste. Pipe tobaccos are slightly harsher than cigarette tobaccos, and must be kept moist, which is why they are stored in an airtight container called a humidor. Pipe tobacco can be cut into flakes or tightly pressed into small chunks which are then cut into smaller pieces and stuffed into a pipe tobacco to be smoked. Probably the most famous brand of pipe tobacco is Captain Black pipe tobacco, a mild, golden Cavendish tobacco that is made in the United States.

Virginia Tobacco

Virginia is home to about 60% of tobacco grown in the U.S. It is called "Virginia" tobacco because it has a subtle, fruity flavor unique to Virginia tobacco crops that has been described as both tasty and sweet. This type of tobacco is found in those brands advertising tobacco that is aromatic and clean-smoking. Virginia's economy has been primarily based on tobacco for the past three hundred years and continues to be so today. While the technique of growing tobacco is labor-intensive, it is extremely profitable, making more money per acre than soybeans or corn. Smokers of both cigarette and pipe tobacco spend over $50 billion dollars worldwide on tobacco products and Virginia is the major breadwinner for tobacco profits in the U.S.

Burley Tobacco

Burley, which is a technical description meaning "air cured", is the second most popular tobacco blend behind Virginia tobacco. This tobacco is hung in big, open storehouses where it is allowed to naturally cure for several months. When it is finished, burley tobacco will have a light tan to dark brown color and is further process by flavoring it with different kinds of sugars. This gives it a strong flavor which constitutes the traditional sweetened, American blends. Burley will give the smoker an initial mellow taste which turns into a sweet, nutty taste. Excellent brands of burley, which are more expensive than the normal brands, have a special, granola-like flavor that mingles with the burnt-sugar taste. Many burley smokers will not smoke any other brand because of its unusual flavor.

Many other kinds of pipe tobacco are available, with European brands sold on the internet. In addition, tobacco pipes come in all sorts of sizes and styles and can be purchased on the internet, also.

Do Captain Black Cigars have nicotine?
A friend of mine told me that when he quit smoking he still smoked Captain Black cigars still, and that that helped him quit. He said that they had no nicotine. He claimed that having the feeling of smoking, no matter how nicotine-free, eases the need to smoke nicotine filled smokes. Give me a solid answer!
