Cigar Storage Potential Hazards to Avoid

There are things in this life that demand to be enjoyed at the maximum level. When you go out to dinner at an expensive restaurant, you expect the service, the food, and the atmosphere to be top notch. When you buy a fine bottle of wine, the aroma and the taste should be aged to perfection. And when the time comes to enjoy a quality cigar, it should be at the peak of its flavor.

Having a cigar is about more than just smoking. When you sit back by yourself and really begin to enjoy the complexities of such a tiny masterpiece, it leads to reflections on other aspects of your life. Your mind wanders from the cigar itself to thoughts on where you are in your life, where you've been, and where you are going.

This is all part of the meditative nature of cigar smoking, but it all stems from the cigar being the best that it can be. If your cigar has been improperly stored, then you can't appreciate it properly. And if you can't get past that, then it is hard to think about anything else.

A cigar should be flexible but not soggy. It should be firm but not crumbling. To achieve this happy medium, you are going to need to make sure that your cigars are stored in the right level of humidity and at the correct temperature. Here are a few accessories that will make sure your cigars stay fresh.

WaterPillows Humidifier 12 Pack

If your humidor does not come with a built-in humidifier, then you are going to have to maintain as close to 70% humidity as possible through some other means. WaterPillows Humidifiers make this an easy task.

All you have to do is soak one of these pillows in distilled water for about 20 seconds while it puffs up. You then put it into the included baggie and toss it into your humidor. Just one WaterPillow can keep 25 cigars tasting fresh for a month or more. An affordable 12-pack should last you over a year.

You can even use WaterPillows in factory-made cigar boxes. They also work great for travel humidors or for containers that you have made yourself.

XiKAR Crystal 50 Humidifier Round

This dynamic offering from XiKAR is made from a special polymer gel. This gel is specially designed to absorb up to an astounding 450 times its weight in fluids. It will maintain that perfect 70% humidity with little effort on your end. Make sure that you fill it up with either distilled water or with XiKAR's own PG solution.

Moist-N-Aire Case Humidifier

If you use a large cabinet or end-table humidor to store your cigars, then you are going to need something a little more substantial to keep your collection in prime condition. The Moist-N-Aire Case Humidifier is so effective that many retailers use them in their display cases.

The Moist-N-Aire Case Humidifier can keep up to 48 cubic feet at your desired humidity level. If your storage space is larger than that, you simply may need to use more than one of these units.

This product is made of stainless steel and a knob on the top allows you to adjust the humidity level. Simply fill up the reservoir with two quarts of distilled water and the floating bob will let you know when it is time for a refill. Use this with a hygrometer and be confident in the future of your cigar collection.

Cigar Oasis Ultra

For small humidors or factory boxes you are going to require something smaller to keep all of your cigars in good shape. The Cigar Oasis Ultra is designed so that you can mount it right under the lid of your humidor. This way, it takes up the bare minimum amount of space.

The Cigar Oasis Ultra can be plugged in or run off of battery power. There is even a power saving "sleep mode" so that you don't run through batteries too fast, and an alarm that goes off when the water level is low or the batteries are almost out of juice. It features a water cartridge that is mold-retardant and can easily humidify up to 75 of your favorite cigars.

‘The Rookie' Cigar Smoker's Humidor

If you or someone you know is new to the world of cigars, then you are going to want to consider ‘The Rookie.' It is a great way to get the beginner up and running.

This humidor comes with a humidifier as well as an ashtray, a 3-cigar travel case, and a double-bladed cutter. There is no reason to start smoking cigars if you are going to let good ones go to waste. Start things off right with ‘The Rookie.'

The enjoyment of fine cigars is a pastime that can last long into your life. Make sure your cigar collection can stay fresh just as long by utilizing these fantastic cigar storage accessories.

Cigar storage question?
I have a cigar with a tube cover(came out with it), when I'm finished with it, I keep it in the tube and store it in my closet(not humidor) and the closest is air-tight. Do you think it will lose it's bouquet?

Aside from a humidor, what is the best method of cigar storage?
I don't buy cigars by the box so for now it doesn't make sense for me to invest in a humidor just yet. I've heard so many conflicting opinions as to what method is the next best option for cigar storage aside from a humidor. Fridge? Freezer? Ziploc bag? Tupperware? What method is best and why? Thanks in advance.

long term cigar storage WITHOUT humidor?
I have exceptionally good cigars coming in that I will be giving away as gifts to doctors I have shadowed, etc. However, I will have some left over and do not want to spoil. They are exceptionally good so it would be nice to be able to store them and let them age long term for a special event. I do eventually want to get a humidor, but I'm currently spending all of my pathetic college income on these cigars and cannot afford a humidor right now. Optimally, I will be able to buy one within a year (im living off of loans right not....cant spend $$ on non necessity items, really) so is there a way to store these cigars for up to a year without a humidor???
