Choosing Cuban Cigars - Best Cigar Types for Beginners

Over the past few decades, the popularity of tobacco products has been in flux. Advanced scientific research has discovered that smoking tobacco products, especially those that have been grown and treated with chemical additives, is very dangerous to the health of human beings.

Smoking on a regular basis has been linked to several types of cancer, and other negative health conditions. However, cigars are different than cigarettes, and if enjoyed on a less than daily basis, there is no proof that they can contribute to decreased health. If you're thinking about choosing Cuban cigars for the first time, here are some beginner tips to keep in mind.

Before you can start choosing Cuban cigars like a pro, you have to learn how to distinguish the imposters from the genuine article. Because cigar salespeople understand the high demand for this quality product, they have developed ways of packaging cheap cigars so that they look like the more expensive Cubans.

To an inexperienced cigar smoker, these differences can be very hard to detect. The first and most important thing to do is flip over the box and look for the heat stamp that reads "Habanos s.a. HECHO EN CUBA Totalmente a mano." If these words are missing, or if they are stamped in ink instead, you'll know that you're holding fake Cubans.

Once you've determined that you're shopping in a store that offers the real thing, it's time to get more specific about choosing Cuban cigars.

Most beginners will be unfamiliar with the thick taste and smoke that are produced by a real Cuban cigar, and so it's best to gravitate toward the brands that are a little more on the mild side.

Guantanamera is one of the newest brands of Cuban cigar to hit the market, and many critics feel that it is the best choice for beginning smokers. The tobacco in these cigars is grown in the Vuelta Arriba region and makes a mild and light bodied cigar.

If you're going to be traveling to Cuba and want to know which domestic brands to look for while you're there, be sure to keep an eye out for the Jose L. Piedra. This brand is extremely popular among Cuban natives, because it's far lighter than many of the full bodied Cuban brands.

The aroma of these cigars is mild to medium, and they are made using a hybrid process of machine-bunching and hand-finishing.

Cigars in desktop humidor - leave in celophane, or take them out?
I just got hubby some cigars for Fathers Day (even though he's not a dad, but who cares). When he puts them in his desk top humidor, is it better to keep them in the celophane wrappers or take them out? (Some come with, some come without. Generally most of the cigars he likes are similar types, so there shouldn't be an issue with different cigar types taking on flavors of neighboring cigars.) I'm more concerned with how the 70% humidity hits the cigars. Does it get through the loose celophane anyway, or is it better to remove the celophane and let the humidity hit the cigars directly? Or does the celophane actually keep the cigars fresher?

How does pipe tobocco compare to cigars?
I don't like any cigarettes accept the Djarum Blacks, an I don't really enjoy the gas station cigars, but I recently tried a $5 cigar and man it was so good. I liked it cause it lasted a long time, had a lot of flavor, good smell, and gave me a good buzz. I have figured out I am definately a cigar type person, definately not cigarette. I want to try pipe tobacco and was wondering what a good first choice would be, I don't want anything to mild.

What is this cigar whistle thingy i found?
Yesterday, I went on a trip picking up litter in a part of the city. I was curious to know what this thing was I kept finding. It looked like a cigarette/cigar type thing. It was brown and was sticking out of the end of what looked like some sort of white whistle type thing. It was cylindrical where it was attached to the cigar thingy and then it got smaller as it got farther away as if someone were supposed to put their mouth on it. Anyways, I was just curious, so if you have any idea, that would be nice :)
