Cigar Families

The art of growing tobacco and leaves and rolling cigars has been around for thousands of years. The knowledge has been passed down from generation to generation. A father gives his son his first stick as a passage into manhood and acceptance or they teach their daughter how to roll or smoke a fine crafted stick. Families have been hand rolling and producing some of the finest smokes and the business and industry has become a family one. A lot of sticks you see are named after the families and sell the most in the industry. Here are some famous cigar families.

A well known brand and family is the Fuente family who makes Arturo Fuente cigars. The company is run by grandson, Carlos Fuente Jr. and his two daughters. The family has been making hand rolled sticks since 1916. Arturo grew up in Cuba and learned how to cultivate tobacco with his father. He then learned how to hand roll and immigrated to Florida to roll sticks in America. He continued to produce the finest of cigars. His son Carlos followed suit and lived in the cigar factory with his parents. He was literally born into the industry and learned from his father. He then passed on his knowledge to his son Carlos Jr. Carlos Sr. moved the family to the Dominican Republic where they have a famous tobacco plantation where the best tobacco and leaves are cultivated.

One of the oldest American cigar families is the Newman Family. J.C. Newman started hand rolling cigars in 1895 and the brand has had continued success. His mother paid him to be an apprentice and learn all about the industry in Chicago. He hand rolled sticks for another company until he was laid off, and then his entrepreneurial spirit kicked in and started his own company. J.C.'s story is truly one of the American Dream. He was an immigrant who started and maintained one of the most successful American cigar companies. His two sons joined the business after serving time in the military. Their sons also entered the business, so three generations of Newman men were running the operation.

Years down the road after the two companies had their own success; the Newman and Fuente families joined forces and produced top selling premium cigars. The Newmans have also bought and sold other cigar names; yet work closely with the Fuentes. Not only do both families hand roll some of the best sticks, they also share their success with a charitable organization they founded. They founded the Cigar Family to showcase their talents and the charity is called the Cigar Family Charitable Foundation.

looking for italian ?
I'm looking for an italian restaurant in NC. We went there completely by accident. We got lost looking for something else and completely stumbled upon it. Food was excellent with homemade noodles I do believe. Had fettuccine carbonara. Anyway we went to jr cigars and then we went to an outlet place. Was kind of like little strip malls that you walked around type and we went past that and this place was next to a winn dixie and was kind of small. But I would love to go there again if anyone has a clue please give me a write :)

Where is your preferred website to buy cigars from? Thompson, JR Cigar, Cigars International, Famous smoke?
I've never bought cigars online before. Ive looked into it a little and some of the bigger companies like Thompson, Cigars International, Famous Smoke and JR Cigars. Ive tried to look into what the peoples opinions of these sites are but it looks like every blog and review site is at least over 2 years old if not older (some from 2005). So anything negative could have been fixed and anything positive could have been fumbled by the company for any number of reasons. So does anyone have any current experience with any of these companies? Good bad or indifferent. A little fact for those looking for a little info is that for the CAO Gold Cigars for example the prices for a 5 pack are as follows Famous Smoke: CAO Gold Corona $21.99 JR Cigars: CAO Gold Corona or Robusto $15.75-$17.25 Cigar International: CAO Gold Robusto $17.50 Thompson Cigar: CAO Gold Robusto/Maduro Robusto $24.95-$22.95 Now obviously theres a difference between Robusto and Corona. Basically a matter of girth. But you can see the trend there. Also this is just one instance maybe another brand or bulk will be better for a different company. But what im wondering is some facts about customer service, speed of delivery, quality of packing, other items they offer such as humidors and also opinions on house brands. I know thompson has its own. Also I believe JR also has its own what i call "Mimic sticks" that are similar to other brands. Kind of like the Generic Brand of Coca Cola. Basically the same but different, you know what i mean. Oh and one thing ive been wondering is why do some companies Like Famous smoke require buyers to be only 18 and Thompson says 19 in their catalogue and Cigar International says 21? That kind of set off a red flag to me, i mean im 25 so it doesnt matter to me either way and to save money im not opposed to straddle legal definitions. But whats with the strange age requirements, does that speak to their legitimacy? Oh and just to be sure they all charge tax just to the state in which they do business in right? So any opinions or experiences with any of these sites you want to share would be appreciated!
