Cuban Cigars

Cuban cigars are cigars which have been manufactured on the isle of Cuba, using tobacco grown in the same place. They are regarded as being some of the finest cigars in the world, and often sell for hundreds of pounds each. Cuban cigar rollers are famous worldwide, and often tour to other continents to display their cigar making skills at festivals and events, as they have a reputation in cigar making which is second to none.

Overall, the cigar industry in Cuba has suffered somewhat since 1962, when, at the height of the Cold war, US president Bill Clinton announced a trade embargo with Cuba, banning almost every Cuban product from being imported into the US. The law still exists to this day, and it is illegal for American citizens to buy cuban cigars, regardless of where they are on the planet. However, Cuban cigars still retain their quality, and have been symbolic in many famous historic images, perhaps most famously protruding from the mouths of Fidel Castro and Sir Winston Churchill on many of their photographs.

There are two main tobacco companies on the isle of Cuba: Habanos s.a. and Cubatabaco. Both these companies have been state owned since 1962, when Castro's socialist government took them over. Due to this, many cigars of the same brand and variety are sometimes rolled in many factories across the island.

Cuban cigars also carry a handy mark: all Cubans bear "Hecho en Cuba" on their box and wrapper, and, if rolled by hand, "totalmente a mano" can be found underneath in cursive text. If, however, they have been hand rolled but machine packed, they display: Hecho en Cuba a mano".

Perhaps the most popular Cuban cigars are the 'Romeo y Julieta' variety, named after Shakespeare's famous tragedy. The most famous smoker of these was probably Sir Winston Churchill, who developed a taste for a long 7inch Romeo y Julieta, with a 47 ring gauge. This cigar is now extremely popular worldwide, and has been affectionately named "the Churchill" by it's manufacturers.

Will some marijuana products be considered trendy, luxury goods?
Both alcohol (Krug, Macallan, etc) and tobacco (Arturo Fuente, Romeo y Julieta, etc.) have high-end luxury brands that are marketed to affluent connoisseurs. Both are marketed and perceived to be trendy and luxurious. When and if marijuana is legalized in the US, will some of its products be perceived as trendy, high-end luxury goods? Still the people in high times still all look like stoners. I guess another way to ask the question is will it lose its "stoner" vibe and makes its way to people wearing tuxedos and stuff. :) Still not getting the answers I'm looking for. Myabe I should take this question over to the business category
